At noon of the 30th of November/13th of December 2016, the Beit Schmuel Institution outside the walls of Jerusalem, near David’s Gate, hosted an event organized by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism on the occasion of Christmas, the New Year and Hannukah.

On the morning of Monday, the 29th of November/12th of December 2016, the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Yoav (Poli) Mordechai, accompanied by Israeli military men from the Bethlehem region, i.e. Mr Dani Zandler and Mr Kfir, and Mr Cesar Margie, responsible for the Division of Christian Affairs of the Israeli Ministry of Religious Affairs, visited the Patriarchate.

Before noon on Saturday the 27th of November/10th of December 2016, a forty-member group of Squadrons 341 and 347 of the Hellenic Air Force, under squadron leader, Demetrios Gritzaliotis, and accompanied by the representative of the Greek Embassy in Israel, Mr Broumas, visited the Patriarchate.

1. The feast of St Catherine in the Old City of Jerusalem.
On Thursday, the 25th of November/8th of December 2016, the memory of St Catherine the glorious martyr and all-wise was observed at the Patriarchate.
St Catherine hailed from Alexandria and was graced by God with natural gifts. Distinguished for her education and wisdom, she confessed her faith in Christ and for this she was captured and tortured, suffering decapitation during the reign of Emperor Maxentius. (More…)
On the morning of Thursday, the 25th of November/8th of December 2016, the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr Alexis Tsipras, whilst on a visit to Israel, demonstrated in practical terms his interest in the ongoing restoration works on the Aedicula of the Holy Sepulchre, carried out by the Interdisciplinary Team of the National Technical University of Athens. The Prime Minister arrived at David’s Gate, where he was welcomed by the Secretary of the Holy Synod, His Eminence Demetrios, Archbishop of Lydda, and Archimandrite Mathew, with other Hagiotaphite Fathers.
