On Wednesday 14th/17th May 2017, a team of 20 Romanian Journalists visited the Patriarchate, escorted by Mrs. Eleanna Ayas, representative of the State of Palestine.

H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos and Hagiotaphite Fathers received this team of journalists. Answering to their questions, His Beatitude referred to the role of the Church of Jerusalem, which was upgraded to a Patriarchate in 451 A.D., to the formation, preservation and consolidation of the Christian character of Jerusalem through the All-holy Shrines – the Church of the Resurrection and the many Holy Monasteries inside the Old City – through which, Jerusalem and the Patriarchate have always been a meeting place of thousands of pilgrims, representatives and delegations of countries, churches and organizations. On Tuesday afternoon, 3rd/16th May 2017, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mr. Volodymyr Groysman, visited the Patriarchate, escorted by approximately thirty of his associates, among whom the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Education, the Minister of Finance and the Ambassador of Ukraine in Israel Mr. Gennadii Nadolenko.

His Excellency the Prime Minister and his exquisite team were warmly received by H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos and Hagiotaphite Fathers, among whom the Most Reverend Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina, Dragouman Archimandrite Mattheos, Archdeacon Mark.

The Prime Minister thanked His Beatitude, as despite His many duties, He offered time to this visit at the Patriarchate, within the agenda of the P.M.’s visit in the State of Israel, and thanked Him for His position at the critical issue on the Ukraine dispute, which the Ukraine Government is striving to solve without interfering with the Ecclesiastical issue.   (More…)

On Monday, 2nd/15th May 2017, the Most Reverend Metropolitan Chrysostom of Patra with a group of pilgrims from Patra visited the Patriarchate as the reclamation of the pilgrimage of the Holy Metropolis of Patra in the Holy Land.

The Metropolitan was warmly received by His Beatitude our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, and Hagiotaphite Fathers. His Beatitude welcomed the pilgrims and stressed the significance of this pilgrimage for the life of each of the pilgrims, and praised the Metropolitan for his support on religious tourism, because these Holy Shrines of the Holy Land are the witnesses of the historic earthly presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. Each of the pilgrims receives the grace of the Holy Shrines, and especially this Paschal season of the year, and conveys it together with the message of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ to their relatives and the whole world. On Sunday, 1st/14th May 2017, the Samaritan  woman Sunday, according to the book of Pentecostarion, the Jerusalem Patriarchate celebrated the memory of the meeting of the Samaritan woman with the Lord, at the town of Sychar in the Samaria district, at the place of that meeting, Jacob’s well, and her conversation with the Lord, with the revelation that was made to her that He is the Christ, and the water He would give her is the water that brings eternal life, and whoever drinks it will never thirst in the ages to come, according to the vivid narrative of the Evangelist John (John 4:4-42).

At this well and at the marvellous huge and magnificent Church named after St. Foteini the Samaritan woman, which praiseworthily the Hegoumen of the Shrine Archimandrite Ioustinos has built, the Festal Divine Liturgy was celebrated by H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, with concelebrants the Most Reverend Metropolitan Kyriakos of Nazareth, and the Most Reverend Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina, Hagiotaphite Hieromonks and Archimandrites, Klaudios the Hegoumen of the Holy Monastery of the Sacred Cross, Ignatios, Hegoumen of the H. Monastery of the Shepherds, Stephen, Hegoumen of the H. Monastery of St. Katherine, Archdeacon Mark, Deacon Agapios, with the participation in prayer of Archimandrite Chrysostom Hegoumen of the H.Monastery of St. Gerasimos and Arab speaking Presbyters. Singing were the Choir Leader of the Most Holy Church of the Resurrection Archimandrite Aristovoulos in Greek, Russian and Romanian on the right, and Archimandrite Leontios with the parish choirs of the neighbouring parishes on the left, in Arabic, at the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem Mr. Christos Sophianopoulos and a large crowd of local faithful and pilgrims from the nearby areas, from Greece, Russia, Romania and Cyprus, monks and nuns. The Patriarchate website posts an article of Miss Elisabeth Koulinsky, daughter of a Priest and Russian speaking student in the School of Theology of Athens, in the Russian language, about Daniel the Russian who came as a pilgrim in the Holy Land in the 10th century and wrote in his Intinerarium his pilgrimage impressions and experiences, which are quite useful regarding the Holy Shrines.
